Students can lean on several financial supports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB): Available to students who made at least $5,000 in the last year, but only if they had been working and lost their source of income due to COVID-19. This program is now closed. It was replaced with new supports from the Government of Canada:
- Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB)
- Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)
- Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB)
Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB): Available to students and new graduates not eligible for CERB. This program is now closed.
B.C. Student Loans: StudentAid BC is providing emergency student financial assistance, adapting policy and streamlining processes to support students.
Canada Student Loans: Changes to Canada Student Grants and Loans to help students facing financial challenges from COVID-19 access post-secondary education.
B.C. Student Access Grant: A new needs-based grant to remove barriers to post-secondary education and training and provide non-repayable financial support for students in B.C.
