Guidelines for International Travel
Starting October 30, 2021, those wishing to use federally regulated methods of travel must be fully vaccinated. This includes:
- Departures from Canadian airports (domestic and international)
- Travel on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains
- Trips on non-essential passenger vessel for more than 24 hours (ie. cruise ships)

General Travel Considerations
If you are traveling, take the same precautions as you do at home and work:
- Wash your hands often
- Practice safe distancing of 2m
- Spend time in small groups and open spaces
- Clean spaces often
- If you are feeling sick, stay home
- Plan ahead to make sure the community you want to visit is welcoming visitors
- Be respectful of locals
- Contact the local tourism association or Chamber of Commerce to learn what services are available
If you develop symptoms while travelling, self-isolate immediately and contact 8-1-1 for guidance and testing.
Canada's Flight Plan for Navigating COVID-19
Transport Canada has worked closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada, provinces and territories, air operators, and airports to put in place a series of health and safety measures to protect travellers.
Key safety measures include:
- Physical distancing measures in airports
- Cleaning and disinfecting protocols in airports
- All screening staff in airports to wear gloves and masks
- All crew members and most airport staff to wear face coverings and undertake temperature checks
- All travellers to wear face coverings or non-medical masks and undertake health checks and visual screenings for symptoms at airports
