The COVID-19 crisis has brought about unprecedented health and safety challenges for businesses. Both employers and employees have responsibilities to maintain a health workplace for themselves and customers.
Latest Update - November 19th, 2020: The Provincial Health Officer has issued a new public health order to help reduce social interactions and travel. As part of this order, businesses must indefinitely suspend the following activities:
- Spin classes
- Hot yoga
- High intensity interval training (HIIT)
The following indoor group physical activities are temporarily suspended until new guidelines are available:
- Dance studios
- Martial arts
- Strength and conditioning
Venues must use the new guidance to update and re-post their COVID-19 Safety Plan before resuming operations.
Masks are now required for everyone in all public indoor settings and workplaces. People who cannot wear a mask or who cannot put on or remove a mask on their own are exempt. Read the mask mandate order.
- Employers are expected to enforce the mandatory mask policy with both employees and customers
- A customer can be refused entry or service if they do not wear a mask
Individuals are subject to a $230 fine if they:
- Do not wear a mask in an indoor public setting
- Refuse to comply with the direction of an enforcement officer, including the direction to leave the space
- Respond with abusive or belligerent behaviour
In addition to compliance activities by WorkSafe, an Environmental Health Officers team will focus on workplaces in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health regions to ensure COVID-19 Safety Plan compliance and enable rapid response and action.
